Edward “Ned” Abbott

This is my blog. I speak for no one but myself here. The words I write, the images I post, and the articles I link to interest no one but me. I stand by what I put here, however, it is not a reflection of time, effort, or particular care. I just want a clearinghouse of what does interest me and a space to spout out poorly written and thoughtout rants. Consider this a disclaimer.

The Apocalypse Red from @bonnieplants. This is @library_shoes’ plant. She doesn’t know what to do with it. Suggestions?

More purple than I expected from the rhododendron this year. But…it didn’t bloom last year at all.

Today’s book. “The Hardest Job in the World” by @jdickerson. I bought it when it came out last spring but everything was too much to read about the difficulty of the office and the men who held it. This spring is different.

First run of April in the books. #FatGuyRunning Funny story: I was running intervals based on the music I was listening to. When my chosen playlist ended, I asked Siri to play Aesop Rock. Siri then told me she was playing the Rocky IV soundtrack. Not what I expected but it ended up being a happy accident. #NoEasyWayOut

Today’s Book! Many of you know that #cyberpunk is my favorite genre. As the world has gotten slightly worse with every day, the genre is becoming less fiction. Reading stories that incorporate the changes in technology since the 1980s adds vibrancy and relevance to the genre. It’s still “bad guys with good tech doing morally questionable things” and I find that appealing. And yes I’m using a Todd Frazier (@flavafraz21) card as a bookmark, because baseball.

Can I gush about how much I love this beverage from @lagunitasbeer? It’s like a hop soda or a wonderful refresher good for any day. Zero calories, zero alcohol, and a ton of flavor. My only hope is that they can it so it can go in my bag for long runs and camping this summer.

#HobbyJog Point was to be on my feet for two hours to test some gear and my body. Test was fairly successful. Oh, and to play Pokémon Go. Because that’s normal for a 46 year old.

Because being off of Twitter has left me with a bunch of links about things I find enjoyable, I started a podcast. I know. Believe me. https://ift.tt/2OFSgGi Anyway, the conceit is that this is about a couple of things that pop up that I find interesting. Food, weird news stories, more food, running absurd distances, even more food. I am using the @anchor.fm platform provided by @spotify and the podcast is being pushed out to more and more of your favorite podcasting services every day. Much like my YouTube, I don’t expect it to become popular or even resonate but I like doing it as a way for me to figure out the craft and the technology. And my relentless desire for the dopamine hit that validation from social media provides. In a completely weird coincidence, @cnn announced that their daily news blast is rebranding to...Five Things. Cool.

I signed up. Clearly I have some issues to deal with if this is how I want to spend a weekend. In my defense, if @yetitrailrunners didn’t offer it, and @library_shoes didn’t encourage me, I...would probably do something similar. Anyone want to tag along for at least a leg? #FatGuyRunning

#MedalMonday Virtual 5k that I totally did for the t-shirt (and maybe the 20% off at @llbean coupon). Last race of 2020. I look forward to the races I have lined up for ‘21, including a couple of ultras, an inaugural half in Vermont, and hopefully a number of the AREEP races in Upstate NY. #FatGuyRunning
