This is one of the reasons the Mets are bad

Nevertheless, starting on July 1, 2011, Bobby Bonilla will remain on the franchise's payroll for 25 years, collecting an annual salary of $1,193,248.20. Those are the terms the Mets agreed to Jan. 3, 2000, when they bought out the final year of Mr. Bonilla's contract.

Afghanistan and American Power

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

While this interview provided me with a good amount of new information, I was concerned with use of the word "Viceroy" to describe what is needed from the State Department to work in conjunction with Department of Defense.

Afghanistan is a morass but Viceroy strikes me as a return to Empire Building.

And I Laughed

England Players Robbed Of More Than Just Goals And Dignity:

"As if enough shame and scorn has not been heaped on the English side today, word comes out of South Africa that they were also robbed during their too-brief visit. Fortunately, justice there is swift and exacting. Unlike Wayne Rooney."

I am not sad to see him go..

How will you remember Robert Byrd? As the man who was elected to the Senate before Barack Obama was born—back when Hawaii was barely a state that issued fake birth certificates, not long after the time when the KKK was a normal-seeming kind of social organization to which one might belong? - The Awl

Yes, I Have a Bird Thing

FAU pointed at that I have a bird thing last year and while he is correct (and it could be worse...I could have a thing for cats) I also understand how some species can be destructive or, at the very least, annoying...like the Canada Goose.

But for as much of a nuisance as they are, when mom and dad goose are herding their goslings, they look almost human.

And now...the end is near

TEA and I are headed home today (thought TEA asked if I had something to do tomorrow so he could stay another night, which I do, and I will get to that later) and I am looking forward to see my dog, the cat and maybe...my housemate.

Yesterday, I relaxed, while TEA went kayaking, fishing, and watched the USA v. Ghana (see previous post) and then while eating wonderful nachos, we watched The Mummy Returns (which was only saved by Rachel Weisz, see image at the right, you are welcome, FAU.) and then an early turn in.

So....what do I have to do tomorrow? Paige is coming! Yay! She is bringing her MAIN SQUEEZE with her, but...Paige! In Albany! This rocks!

Though it does mean that I have to spend a shitton of time cleaning my apartment, convincing myself and Paige that I do not live in squalor. Just near squalor, the suburbs of squalor...Squalor Heights.

And then, after Paige and Main Squeeze head back to Tejas, TEA and I head to Maine.

Do you know what this means? My summer is over. I have nothing else planned and that is okay. I am assuming that I will head down to NYC to see friends, and maybe even get down to Valatie to visit FAU and his home.
