1) Around four AM, I put together a list of pet peeves to see if I was consistent with them. I have a surprising amount of them, and of course I am not consistent with them. Some of them ones that I consider to be huge are forgotten for certain individuals. Maybe it shows that I am growing up, or maybe it shows that I am a complete douche-bag.
2) There will be no Movember photo today as I have been up for the last 26 hours and I creep myself out with how poorly I have fared. You can still donate though (http://us.movember.com/mospace/392590/) and I encourage anyone who hasn't donated to donate soon.
3) A Very Special Thanks to Shauna for her second donation of this November!
4) Around 2:30, this song got stuck in my head and just stayed there...it could be a lot worse.
I mean, at least it isn't Top 40 pop, or classic Holiday Music.
5) I was having a conversation with someone yesterday who insisted that not everyone deserves a fair trial. I don't think they were joking either. Then I see something like this and realize that the people who believe that the guilty should be punished without examination of their guilt or circumstances are legion and the reason that a high percentage of the American public believes that waterboarding is not torture, that Iraq had WMD and was connected to September 11th, and that Two and a Half Men is a decent show.
This is my blog. I speak for no one but myself here. The words I write, the images I post, and the articles I link to interest no one but me. I stand by what I put here, however, it is not a reflection of time, effort, or particular care. I just want a clearinghouse of what does interest me and a space to spout out poorly written and thoughtout rants. Consider this a disclaimer.

And I don't believe
As I sit here in my grandfather’s hospital room, I keep thinking back to The Invention of Lying and the scene where he tells his mother about the man in the sky so that she doesn’t fear her imminent death.
I wish I could do that.
I wish I were capable of believing that.
But…I am not.
My lack of belief in the man in the sky prevents me from hoping that there is something out there that makes sense and where the souls of our loved ones are reunited and everyone gets a mansion.
What we have is each other while we are here, that is the only thing we can be sure of.
I wish I could do that.

Bad for you food for Friday
What to do for lunch?
A couple of weeks ago, I did the Double Down for lunch (again, twice is enough) but that doesn't mean that there aren't really bad for things out there for me.
The Baconator?
Nah, that's going to be around for awhile.
What legend is here until the end of the month?
Yes, you guessed it.
The McRib!
Yes, this storied sandwich was my choice (look at the coverage on The Awl for the full history) for lunch.
Guess what?
It disappointed.
It wasn't as good as I had remembered and it was not nearly tasty as I had hoped.
You know what I wanted from a two dollar sandwich?
I wanted trumpets to erupt from the wall and play something jazzy.
What I got was an unfulfilling experience and pumped in soft rock classics over an awful PA system.
*sigh*
I expect too much from fast food, don't I?

Friday's Movember Update
Tonight is Friday Happy Hour!
Donate the cost of a drink to Movember?
I look awesome, no?
No!
But I am committed to how awful I look.
Still doing this because I care about this issue deeply and sometimes, the best way to show ones internal commitment is to show it externally.
Please take the time to donate to Movember!
Thank you to those who have donated already!

If you consume one piece of media today
Rachel and Jon sat down for an interview last night and it was a good look at what Jon has now been saying for six years about the media, politics, and the conflation of the two through twenty four hour cable news networks and the news cycle that they drive.

Thursday's #Movember Update
Two weeks until the Turkey Trot!
Two weeks until humiliation.
But maybe not. At this point I am at twenty three percent of the money I need to embarrass myself so fully.
So, if you like the idea of me being an idiot or of you like the idea of working to end prostate or testicular cancer, donate any amount to help me reach my goal of raising $1000 this Movember. (Plus you will be entered in a drawing based on your donation level!)
A note of thanks to Ashley for her donation because she hates the mo' but loves me enough to want to see me be a fool.

Movember Update for Wednesday
"Why are you doing this?"
I have a number of reasons; personal, political, and comical. (Come on, I look really silly doing this, and I have provided hours of entertainment so far with this project.)
But the main reason I am doing this is the reason that every parent does something: to make the life of their child better.
That's TEA & I from about ten minutes ago (he is not feeling well again today) and one of the things that I hope this project does is to create a world where TEA doesn't have to worry about his junk being affected by cancer or subject to surgery and treatment that makes him sterile or impotent.
That's what we are talking about...
With these cancers, death is always in the background, but what about if death is avoided. Then my child is left with a a myriad of bad choices.
Maybe...just maybe, my son, your son, your nephews, and the children of your friends will be able to grow up in a world where they can grow a 'Mo because it looks awful and not because they are working to end cancer.
If you agree, please take the time to donate to Movember (plus you get to see me run around in a Turkey Suit and there are all the giveaways).
Thanks to everyone who has donated so far, especially to Lux who donated while stating this:
Ain't no Nedward like a hairy-faced Nedward, 'cuz a hairy-faced Nedward don't stop.
Tru Dat, Son, Tru Dat.

Doing something more important
The little man has a fever and isn't feeling well so we are going to spend the day snuggled on the couch consuming media.

Oh, that Holiday Cheer!
Wow, it was five years ago when I did the Holiday Sounds Project (according to the Wayback Machine from the Internet Archive) and it was the last time that I really though about holiday music. I know that this was one of the songs, and I still love it. It is by far my favorite holiday song, and partially it is because it evokes such a wonderful feeling and some memories, not a personal one, but a there but by the grace of God go I one (which makes no sense whatsoever) and it makes me feel something physically. I can feel the tip of my nose and my toes chill, and I can feel the skin on my face get taut. The night is dark, and made more dark by being overcast, and the flinty smell of snow is on the air, and then the back and forth. It is every relationship that I have ever had.
But it is only November 8th. Yeah, it is...but Duane Reade out up the holiday displays last week, two radio stations in the CD have gone all holiday music all the time, and I know people who are putting up their tree tonight.
Here are my favorite lyrics:
I could have been someone
Well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me
When I first found you
I kept them with me babe
I put them with my own
Can´t make it out alone
I´ve built my dreams around you
So, on this cold & snowy night, when too many people are me are sick, and no one is completely happy, I leave you the Pogues...
The Great #Movember Challenge - Donor Raffles
So, who is the best fund raiser in Upstate New York?
Wait, that would be Shirley Jackson, and I am not trying to do anything like her.
Who is the second best fund raiser in Upstate New York?
Oh, crap...that's Andrew Cuomo...
Let us just all agree that WAMC's Alan Chartock (Dr. Alan Chartock, apologies for being too familiar) can raise money with the best of them and the seasonal fund drive is...memorable.
One of the things that makes the fund drive work, apart from the stories, and believe me, I have a wonderfully contrived story about how my mo' was going to be sponsored by Saint Rose, but then I would be prohibited from talking about reproductive rights and marriage equality and my mo' and I walked out of there, because my mo' has inegrity, is the raffles for the people who pledge.
You know what I am talking about, right?
Pledge $100 and you get to see James Taylor cut his hair or something like that.
So, I have no access to James Taylor, and no great Pete Seeger stories.
What I do have in abdundance is a lack of pride and a willingness to look the fool and I promised that if I got to $1000 in donations, I would run the Turkey Trot in a Turkey Suit. See, lookin' the fool! What to do? Raffle my time off and make it valuable.
Therefore, here is how I am valuing my time and your donations:
For a $100 Donation, up to two donors will have me for a full day of Holiday shopping, where I will carry the bags and run the the car, and push the old lady down who is in your way when you are trying to buy that $13 DVD player. (Excludes Black Friday and Christmas Eve)
For a $50 Donation, up to two donors will get three hours of labor from me. This can be house cleaning, this can be raking, this can be anything you want. The hours do not have to be used consecutively.
For a $25 Donation, up to two donors will get me to come over to your home and cook for you and three other people.
For a $20 Donation, up to two donors will get two hours of computer repair and service.
For a $10 Donation, I will have a beer, cup of coffee, or ice cream with you. I will not buy you one, but I will have one with you.
And...
For $250 Donation, I will be your Shopping Sherpa on Black Friday. Yep, I am saying it. $250 GETS ME ON THE WORST SHOPPING DAY OF THE YEAR. The first person to make this donation will automatically get this and it comes off the board.
The drawing will occur on December 2nd, and I will be announcing the winners on the blog and Facebook.
To break it down again:
$250 = Black Friday Shopping Sherpa
$100 = Shopping Sherpa
$50 = Day Laborer
$25 = Personal Cook for a Dinner Party
$20 = Computer Support
$10 = Drinks and Such
Please make your donations at Movember and thanks to those who have donated already!
