Wow, it was five years ago when I did the Holiday Sounds Project (according to the Wayback Machine from the Internet Archive) and it was the last time that I really though about holiday music. I know that this was one of the songs, and I still love it. It is by far my favorite holiday song, and partially it is because it evokes such a wonderful feeling and some memories, not a personal one, but a there but by the grace of God go I one (which makes no sense whatsoever) and it makes me feel something physically. I can feel the tip of my nose and my toes chill, and I can feel the skin on my face get taut. The night is dark, and made more dark by being overcast, and the flinty smell of snow is on the air, and then the back and forth. It is every relationship that I have ever had.
But it is only November 8th. Yeah, it is...but Duane Reade out up the holiday displays last week, two radio stations in the CD have gone all holiday music all the time, and I know people who are putting up their tree tonight.
Here are my favorite lyrics:
I could have been someone
Well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me
When I first found you
I kept them with me babe
I put them with my own
Can´t make it out alone
I´ve built my dreams around you
So, on this cold & snowy night, when too many people are me are sick, and no one is completely happy, I leave you the Pogues...
yes, this is indeed one of the all-time great Christmas songs!
