The Best Burger in the 518

I asked, via social media, last night who had the best burger in the 518.

Why?

Because Teacher Dave was headed to New York for the day and mentioned HIMYM's "Best Burger in New York" and I wondered who had the best burger in the 518.

Watch Marshall talk about the burger in Italian

These were the suggestions:

The Brown Bag (Troy)
The Point (Albany) Randy was emphatic about this.
Beff's(Colonie)
Juicy Burger (Guilderland)
The Stadium Cafe (Saratoga)
Sutter's Mill (Albany)
New World Bistro Bar (Albany)
McGeary's (Albany)
Capital City Gastropub (Albany)
Yanni's Too (Coeymans)

Of the places on this list, I have had burgers at Beff's (Used to be good, now not so much.) Sutter's (often wonderful), McGeary's (very good, but I prefer the sliders) and Juicy (tasty but I am not sure).

I was surprised to see The Hill Street Cafe left off this list and pleasantly surprised to see only one chain on the list.

What is your favorite burger place?

  1. Make an effort to go to the Brown Bag. They're open from 9pm to 6am but it's a great post-Ruck treat.

  2. On the phantasmagorical side there is the deep fried Buffalo burger at Swifty's in Delmar, which is especially remarkable that they can cook it to temperature. And it's even better than it sounds.

For sheer cost to value ratio, there is the local pasture-raised burger with bacon and cheese on the lunch menu at Taste in downtown Albany. It's $10 and served in one of the prettier dining rooms in the area. Just make sure to ask them to toast the bun.

That said, I have yet to find the burger of my dreams in Albany. The burger of my dreams was made at The Original Joe's in San Francisco before it burned down in a fire. Sweet sweet beef fat.

    1. Daniel, Swifty's is the place that replaced Beff's, right?

      Deep fried sounds dangerous.

Some of the burgers that I have had at Sutter's have been great as well as the burgers at the Hill Street but I want the more of the slider type. I am a huge fan of the McGeary's sliders...love them to death...after ten days out of the area this summer, McGeary's was my first stop but...I want the LTO with them and that is difficult to do.

(Plus, a place that serves great homemade pickles on the side would be gravy.)
