I often get the worst songs stuck in my heads. Earlier today, thanks to FAU, I had the Jimmy Fallon/The Boss version of "Whip My Hair" coming out at random times. (Bastard)
FAU has a theory that Beast of Burden will remove the earworm and will not get stuck itself.
I disagree, as the song has become stuck in my head & it does not work for me.
This song does:
It helps that I do love me some Radiohead.
So, I have replaced one earworm with another, but...I can live with this one.
This is my blog. I speak for no one but myself here. The words I write, the images I post, and the articles I link to interest no one but me. I stand by what I put here, however, it is not a reflection of time, effort, or particular care. I just want a clearinghouse of what does interest me and a space to spout out poorly written and thoughtout rants. Consider this a disclaimer.

And I get a bass line stuck in my head...
So, I feel compelled to share it with you.
Yes, it is the Killers.
"Jenny was a friend of mine"
As I was working on a project, I found myself typing and bobbing my head to the "duh duh duh duh, bun duh duh duh" beat and "argh". It was completely maddening. This happens too often for it to be healthy. Just the other day, I had "We don't need no walkie-talkies" from Aesop Rock's Coffee (which was one of my guilty pleasure songs) going non-stop and it would occasionally slip out. I was threatened with a counter earworm. Luckily for me, I was able to shut it down.
I am having issues with extricating the bass line from the front of my brain this afternoon and it is making the afternoon...interesting.
(By the way, the bass is stuck in my head because of this mashup by dj lobsterdust.)
(Off topic entirely, I remembered to eat lunch. Rice noodles with a red curry and lemon grass broth. Cold green sun tea. So fraking good.)

Got Brass...In Pocket
Who doesn't love the Pretenders?
I mean, who doesn't?
For some reason, Brass in Pocket stuck in my head on Friday and it stayed with me all weekend long.
I remember seeing them in 90s at SPAC (opening for The B-52s) and loving when Chrissie Hynde walked through the crowd and to the grass while singing this song.
Then, ScarJo sing it in Lost in Translation further solidified it as one the songs that just made me feel...good.
Anyway, if you are going to get a song stuck in your head, can you think of a better one?

Her perfume was unspeakable...
He thought he was the King of America
But it was just a boulevard of broken dreams
A trick they do with mirrors and with chemicals
The words of love in whispers
And the acts of love in screams
I wish that I could push a button
And talk in the past and not the present tense
And watch this lovin' feeling disappear
Like it was common sense
I was a fine idea at the time
Now I'm a brilliant mistake

Ear Worm that I Blame FAU for.
I should also blame a handful of women who went to CCHS and Rick (yes, from Union, remember, we were friends in high school too) for making me love this album...
FAU put it in my head maybe a week ago and it didn't come to dominate until about three hours ago...
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cinco de Mayo Earworm
Arcade Fire: Black Mirror
The Official Video Embedding Disabled
Check out the official video if you are interested in the studio version of the song as well as a very "end of the world"-esque video.

Tuesday's Earworm
I ended up taking a shower at 11 PM yesterday, and this song came up. This did cause me to chuckle, especially since Thursday and I have been using this song as a personal punchline.
Anyway, I forgot how hot this video was.

Thirteen
A couple of weeks ago, I posted the link to the Winterpills cover of this song (which was recorded in honor of Alex Chilton's passing) and last night, for some reason, I had it stuck in my head.
This song has been covered a lot (most famously by Elliot Smith about whose cover Josh Radnor called devastatingly sad...and even in the linked clip, Elliot asks the crowd, "Do you want me to do a happy song?" before he goes into Thirteen.) and a lot of people see it as a touch stone for pop music (and I will contend that this is the Ur song for fans of the Violent Femmes and without Big Star...they just don't happen.
Anyway...
There is no good reason why this song should be playing back and forth as if on a loop in my head, but it has and that is good enough for me to call it my earworm.

My Aim is True
For the better part of the past two weeks, a friend has been going through some weirdness with her partner, and the partner is acting like a complete douchenozzle, based on nothing; a nothing so comical that if it were used as the plot of a 90s sitcom, it would strain credulity.
Anyway, as the partner has moved closer and closer to the deep end and the villain role in a movie that Lifetime will show at three on a Saturday afternoon (it was serious and I was concerned but the route that it got to this point should have had either Danny Tanner or Phoebe sitting down to provide exposition at a critical moment) this song became the earworm of choice.
The irony...this friend doesn't respect Elvis Costello in the least.

Catching Up
1) FAU is upset about Tim Tebow going to the Broncos. His well thought out posts on Facebook are a thing of beauty as well.
2) @PVH1976 is home and resting.
3) And your earworm for Friday, courtesy of BaristaBabe
4) My son, TEA, has decided (on his own) to become a Roman Catholic, and today is his Christening. While I personally disagree with this choice, I am supporting him, because he is a smart person who is becoming a brilliant young man, and even when you know something to be a mistake, part of being a parent is allowing your children to make some of those.

Tuesday's Earworm
Yes, it's sappy. Yes, it's from RENT. Yes, I kinda suck.
I have no clue why this song was in my head when I woke up, but it was...

Earworm Part Deux
As I saw @PVH1976 apply makeup while in the hospital, I had to start singing this song...to myself and out loud.
Something about a topical earworm that is awesome.
Sunday's (and Monday's) Earworm
Yes, specifically this version. @PVH1976 and I were watching this while just chilling at the hospital on Friday and for some odd and awful reason, it popped into my head yesterday morning. It had continued to haunt me...like three day old sushi.

Tuesday's Earworm
There is something about Radiohead that always allows for the earworm that was punishing me earlier (like Cream) to be happily replaced by something wonderful. Well, never happy when it comes to Radiohead but you know what I mean.
This is Optimistic.
Flies are buzzing around my head
Vultures circling the dead
Picking up every last crumb
Big fish eat the little ones
Big fish eat the little ones
Not my problem give me some
You can try the best you can
If you try the best you can
The best you can is good enough
(x2)
This one's optimistic
This one went to market
This one just came out of the swamp
This one drops a payload
Fodder for the animals
Living on an animal farm
If you try the best you can
If you try the best you can
The best you can is good enough
(x2)
I'd really like to help you man
I'd really like to help you man.....
Nervous messed up marionette
Floating around on a prison ship
If you try the best you can
If you try the best you can
The best you can is good enough
If you try the best you can
If you try the best you can
Dinosaurs Roaming the earth (x3)
