SyFy burned off the last five episodes of Caprica last night in a marathon. (They had been released on DVD on December 21st.)
First of all, the last five minutes of the series was able to do what so few programs are able to do. They answered all the questions and kept the show well in continuity, with the exception of one, (the one being, why did Joseph Adama become a civil rights attorney? What was his revelatory moment? Did Tamara become a skinjob?) and I was left with far fewer WTF moments then I was at the end of Battlestar.
I am going to try to avoid spoilers as some people who are going to watch the end of the series haven't seen the episodes yet but...
One of the problems with the show that became a strength as the arc continued to conclusion was the consistency of the characters. They were who they were, and they were fully realized. Allowing the series to end so that we could see where that took them, and not putting anything in the hands of divine providence, was a goodness. As I said, most of the questions were answered and we do know where this generation of Cylons came from (as all this has happened before).
While I am always disappointed when something ends prematurely, or in a way that I did not see happening, this was satisfying because the truth of the series was revealed. We (and by extension, our creations) are flawed, nuanced, complicated, and doomed to fall into the paradigms that we have been assigned. When they went against this (i.e. Daniel and Amanda allowing Zoe to make the choice to come to them) they find something fulfilling, but...
That act was the central action that allowed the final denouement, and I suppose that's the point in Ron Moore's Universe...playing against type will always lead to your downfall through your ultimate triumph.
